Up the Creek near Chilliwack

Wise members of the Chilliwack Airport Flat Earth Society show responsibility with this public message.

Its Amazing....there is a place ....and I always thought it was just a saying ....a myth ...like a joke....Well there ya are......This Picture proves it beyond a doubt ....I reckon if you ever land up there, at least you can get out if you have some cash.....

This is a really good thing to know so please pass it along.....it would be a terrificly fine gesture to tell people who have not been there, although most of us have had a visit.

Go get em.........

Wow, pretty nippy out there on the Vedder River last Wednesday ...freezing and the east wind howling....but my pal Gus (another Gus) nailed this nice 13 lb Steelhead ......he was pleased as punch when we met for our daily Flat Earth Society coffee break at the Chilliwack airport cafe...Gus only put in a few hours that day and managed to lose one and land this nice this fine female specimen...way to go gus.....with the river settling down after a snow and flood stage for a few weeks the river hopefully will yield some good Steelhead fishing.

A Steelhead is an ocean run Rainbow Trout that is hatched in the river and runs to the ocean where it lives to maturity then returns to its home river to spawn....A Salmon will always die on the spawning bed ......many Steelhead live to spawn another year and possibly a third ....I would like to know if any have made it a fourth or more....I don't think that data is available....anyway ....If anyone who has ever landed a ocean run Steelhead Trout is usually stricken with an addiction. Fishing is a very effective equalizer of the human race ....Doctor, Taxi Driver, Celebrity, Bum.....the river shows no preference.

Chilliwack group outstanding in their field

As usual, the FLAT EARTH SOCIETY of Chilliwack is at the right place at the right time . In their ever consuming desire for knowledge they are always searching for the truth....a few of many, many members are seen in the foreground of this photo .They are there to get the dope ...and learn of the recent crowning of a new star to lead the masses in the struggle for a new beginning toward overcoming the adversities of economic control and environmental temperance and astrological influence. A member is good standing on the platform of excellence, he is a chosen individual regardless of faith , hope and dispair of his possesions that are stored near the runway of happiness.

Oh Deer

A friend sent this to me via email..........

A story from Larchwood Iowa. that I think you may find interesting ....

On November 6, a relative, Donna Viereck, called to tell us that she was driving to Canton, South Dakota and had seen a buck in the distance with his head down. It wasn't moving, and although she honked the car horn repeatedly, he wouldn't raise his head. She grabbed her binoculars and looked at him, and saw that the buck's horns were entangled with those of another one, which was dead. So she called us and asked if we wanted an adventure -- untangling the animals! Well, we went, pronto!!! I took my camera and we walked right up to them. They were tangled in an old fence line just east of a golf course, where some railroad tracks had been. The live buck was on the high side, and the dead buck on the slope. The other buck had been dead for 2 or 3 days, we estimated. Terry attempted to break a point off the dead buck's rack with his pliers, but couldn't.... He tried turning the dead buck's head but the other one just became more frightened and started backing up. The live buck had the bigger rack - a 5 x 6. The dead buck was bigger bodied and looked to be an older deer. It had more "stickers" on its rack. The now scared buck eventually got out of the fence, and out in the open. Terry pulled an old post out of the fence line and used it to try and pry the racks loose, but it didn't work.We finally decided to go to a friend's house in order to borrow his chainsaw, but then we thought something quieter would be better, and so got a hacksaw instead. Terry sawed the main beam on the dead buck and then other one was free! The buck didn't realize this for probably 30 seconds or so. When he did, he started striking the dead buck in the face repeatedly. He finally raised his head a little, and then a little more. He stood there with his head held high looking at both of us and we wondered if he were going to try charging us too! Then he turned and ran off rather wobbly. He went a short distance, lay down briefly, and then got up and took off in the direction of the Big Sioux River .
wow ...pretty cool huh...thanks Chris...

What a beaut........

This is my good friend Lew's son ...Ken Chater....a really nice Steelhead (rainbow) trout yesterday...oh my I do miss doing that....

To catch 2 or 3 Vedder fish in a winter represents probably many many days fishing......... by far the majority of fishers do not catch any at all....it is a whackin thrill to pull up on one of these beauties.....and to actually land it without it breaking off or it coming unbuttoned is a great thrill......that tiny line is attached to a silver jerking thing that is really quite pissed off....the life of the fish tranfers to the tip of the rod and you can feel it doing its all to get rid of the pull that seems so threatening . Sometimes a jumper ...sometimes a lugger or a fish that buzzes all about the run....They seem to have personalities (fishalities?)
A fisher probably averages losing half of them.....the weather is no problem to a steelheader.....but the guides freezing up and the tackle icing can be a problem......the river is very cold right now ...about 41 degrees....that usually makes for a lethargic fish and a non biter.....but....there have been a few caught in the Vedder everyday now....that could mean there are a fair number of fish in and when the river comes up a few degrees the bite will be on...then the river will have many hundreds of fishers chasing them.....Chilliwack
's Vedder River is a very busy place as it is only a few miles from Vancouver.....We are very fortunate to still have good access to the river...that is such a problem on many of the rivers......
yup....... Gus
