how cute is this

This is taken in early March 08

.....it is called Salish Park and is 2 blocks from centre downtown Chilliwack ( 5 corners )....That is a Rombus Hotel on the right and a fine Library is of to the left at the end of the small lake(pool)...... Cheam Mountain is centre back.....The bear ?..well it is cute one ain't it ... I have written a bunch on 5 corners in past posts...
The old black and white photo is a tram station that was here when I was a kid.....where the train made the loop (somewhere around the pool ) was a field with a small pond in it that Bill Maxwell, Nan Hartley , Joy Martin and I skated on one winter..... If Nan or Joy ever see this I wonder if they would remember .

Jewel of the Chilliwack Area

The Vedder-Chilliwack River...........Wow... what a wonderful all around stream that cuts through the upper part of the Fraser Valley...It is still pristine and reasonably accessible....but for how long.....we have been slowly but surely losing access to this recreational beauty because of idiots ...... a small percentage of our population are with out a doubt....complete careless *!#$%imbeciles.....due to tough measures approx. half the river has had cement blocks , bulldozed barricades and gates placed over places that were a short while ago open for camping and parking....this portion is now relatively howling idiot and garbage free, BUT ...here are some pictures taken by a Sr. member of our Vedder Cleanup Volunteers....they are taken above the heavily barrierd areas after the May 24 weekend....they speak for themselves.

There is approx. 19 miles of gorgeous river in the upper part....and I suppose the sad solution will be to do even more banning, barricades, gates.....what a terrible penalty the caring majority pay for the irresponsibility of a few useless citizens....I dunno...there does not seem to be a solution......

A while back on a particularly nice September day, we were on our local famous Rotary trail alongside the Vedder river near Chilliwack. The picture I have posted is a real wedding . It is being held on a nice gravel bar alongside the river...hey, that is different huh ...they all seemed to be having a good time of it and it came off successfully....they will have some cool wedding pictures to show off to their kids...

I wonder if that was to be a last look at our fine fishing river for him...awww naw...I hope not......
This one is real ...it is not photo shopped

take a cloud

I wrote this a while after my Mum passed away...she was 92....I was looking through some old mail and I thought this would be a good one for my kids etc.......... gus
........................................................................................................

"Name"
Nina....
No ...full name...
Oh ....Nina Callendar Scales .......Okay, take a cloud and someone will be here to see you....Hello Nina...And what age would you like to be....You mean I can be any age I want...Yup, well sort of...you can be half your age or half of that and so on. Used to be any age you wanted but the NDP changed the rules...We had to do it this way to beat the fees...Well that is wonderful any way...lets see..I would like to be one half my age , so thats...About 46 according to my calculator...Oh that would be nice...46 again...I didn't hurt near as much in those days,
except for my back, and the gall bladder, and water on the knee....
Roy was there then...but not much chance of seeing him here.........Roy, Roy...Roy Scales.....smokes, has a big ash,and doesn't inhale...Well, that sounds like him but I don't remember a big .......No...No he has a long ash on his...nevermind...anyway he is here. Oh my, that was good of you.....Well, we had to let him in because he is the only guy that can keep the Cloud Blower working....And in order to make the trade we had to take in a few of his old pals and a bar tender. Anyway he is here.....And uh.. How old is he? "20" Oh that's just right, won't he be surprised to see me....I'm sure he will Mrs. Scales. He will be off at 2 and then he goes to the Automotive Club...He usually closes the place because he plays the electric guitar in the Hawaiian band. Anyway we have lots of time,...
now you can fill out this schedule....Swimming on Monday....Bingo on Tuesday....Group fashion Parade on Wednesday....and on and on....you can fill out the list...I suggest you wait about 10 minutes ..then you will be 46 and
in the mood for some of this stuff.....Oh yes.......
On fridays you get to watch videos on what the people you left are doing.....Oh my won't that be fun...After lunch I will take you to visit some of your friends and relatives...Oh... I must hurry and get changed ......Is there a thrift store here? Well there are lots of stores but they are just for fun....Here put this on.... Oh, that's beautiful, but it feels a little pulling on the back seams...Thats the wings, keep em folded in when you go through doorways and only open them when you want to cruise around a little...Be careful, there is only one pair every birthday and take em off when you go swimming......
I have a feeling yours will be in great shape, and you may do well on a trade in.Oh wonderful, uh.. do you mind if I ask a question? Of course not....we don't mind anything...Well uh mmm, could I be 23 instead? Yes, 23...according to my calculator......all these changes are a little unusual but you do have pull here with Roy being the cloud blower and all..so, why not...."poof"...how's that.......
Ohhh that's wonderful....but is that not a little too much on the uhh..top....
Oh no Mrs. Scales, you are quite gifted in that department....
oh.oh..okay...so now what happens...
Just go down the way to cloud 9 Mrs. Scales...you can wait there...
I will check in about 5....you have a nice day..........Roy will be surprised....

warm and fuzzy

A six year old goes to the hospital with his grandma to visit his grandpa....
The boy runs ahead of his grandma ...."Hey Grandpa, Grandpa,"
"When Grandma comes into the room, make a noise like a frog!".....
"What?" said his grandpa........... Grandma said that as soon as you croak,
we're all going to Disneyland!!!"

This pix was taken a few days ago at a lake near Kamloops....some friends went fly fishing for a few days and this is one of the excellent pictures taken....this rainbow trout was just being released.

Downpours like this are common on a cloudy May day at 3000-4000 ft.

This is a pix from our back door...We built this patio on this small house in 1970.....I thought I would like to show off the fine gardening my wife does...I can take no credit whatsoever ..she does it all...she even dug and built the fish pool herself .....for me it is like having a holiday place in her backyard....I will add some more photos in future blogs ...I need a bit of sun to get some recent pictures and that is hard come by for a few days.... yup she has created a small paradise away from the busy bustle of Broadway (street)....
