My duck! My duck!
Comment and banter about old times in Chilliwack

Fond memories!
I especially remember the time Don [Hic] and I decided to raise the water level at Daytons pool We worked all afternoon to make a dam, using some old planks, floating weed and grass sods which we placed across the creek to the bridge abutments for support.
We were really pleased with our efforts as the water had risen substantially making a great swimming hole. We were about to leave when Don tapped a little hole on the side of the road near one of the bridge abutments.Whoosh! a big gaping hole appeared. The force of the water flowing under the dam undermined the bridge
and part of the road had disappeared. What had we done!I think we tried to remove the dam, but the damage was done. We high tailed it for home and it was weeks before we had the courage to return to our favourite swimming hole.

Yep, I can barley remember something like that (Daytons)....there was a time when someones shotgun went off and a few pellets found Hic's hand....something like that....your gun..his gun...hmmm.... I know I sprayed Gordon good one night...he was on the other side of the pond and a whack of ducks came in when it was dark....I couldn't see the buggers but I could hear em....Jeez ..what a war...we shot of 48 shells that night and got 3 ducks.....Don Reimer was there too.....A bear of a black night......There were ducks landing all over the place ...right in front of us....It's a wonder we came out of it.....( I can still hear Gordon hollering at me....dumb)

My gun,
Dad's old pump hammer gun. I was unloading it on the side of the road. The gun went off, some pellets ricochet back off the pavement. Thank God that's all that happened. Certainly taught me a lesson on gun handling. To this day I am reminded of that incident when I load or unload a gun. That reminds me of the time Don, Val and I went hunting. Don shot and wounded this duck, chased it down, caught it, proceeded to kill it by stretching its neck. I am not sure how he was carrying it as he was walking back to retrieve his gun. The duck started to flap its wings, got away and took flight , Don chasing it hollering, My duck! My duck!,as it disappeared over the horizon. Val's laughter is still clear in my mind, and I get a chuckle when I think about it.
